Search your exact make, model, year, and fuel type on IdealAssets and note the asking prices of similar-condition cars already listed. That range — not what you paid, and not what you feel it's worth — is your real starting point.
A well-maintained 5-year-old car with complete service records and a clean registration can price above a neglected 3-year-old one. Be specific in your listing about service history, accident history (or lack of it), tyre condition, and whether the RC and insurance are current — vague listings get lowball offers because buyers assume the worst.
Most buyers expect to negotiate, so pricing 5–8% above your actual walk-away number is normal. Pricing 20–30% above market just to "leave room" backfires — it filters out serious buyers before they even message you, and the listing sits untouched for weeks.
If a listing gets views but no messages in the first week, the price is usually the issue — drop it rather than waiting it out. If you're getting messages but no one commits, the issue is usually trust, not price: add more photos, documents, or detail instead.
